Theme
God’s love.
Objective
To encourage students to live life in response to God’s love.
Warm-Up
Supply each student with writing utensils, craft supplies (glue, markers, magazine clippings, etc), and paper. Allow time for students to be creative. Have them write, draw, create whatever they want to answer the question “how do you know when you’re loved?” Allow time for students to share their creations.
Transition and Video
Feeling loved is important, right? When we feel loved we feel like life matters, right? There’s a sense of freedom in knowing we’re loved by those around us. Hawk Nelson tackles this issue in their latest song “Live Like You’re Loved.” Take a look at their video.
Transition
What do you think it means to “live like you’re loved?” What does that look like? When you know you’re loved how do you feel?
Bible Study
Ephesians 2: 1-10
· What does it mean to be dead in your transgressions?
· What is the result of this – what do we crave?
· How do we find freedom from these desires? How are we saved?
· What do you think it means to be saved by grace?
· Where will this freedom, this grace, lead us?
· Is God’s grace and God’s love the same thing?
· How do you feel knowing you are God’s handiwork?
· How are we to respond?
Colossians 2: 6-7
· How are we to respond to God’s grace and love?
· What ways can you continue to be strengthened in faith?
· What does it mean to be “overflowing with thankfulness?”
· How can you actively show your gratitude to God?
Wrap-Up
When you know you’re loved how do you feel? Maybe you learn your crush likes you back – you get excited right? You get a giddy feeling in the pit of your stomach? Do you get the same feeling when you consider God’s love for you? Do you respond in the same way?
Because of God’s love we are made free! This freedom in God’s love is exactly what Hawk Nelson sings about in their song. There’s a sense of joy, there’s an energy released when we know God takes us just as we are, no exceptions. This energy, this giddiness, should be apparent in our lives every day! Can people look at your life and know you’re loved by God? If not, what needs to change?
