What about in relationships? Do you like games?
Relationships can be tricky! Adam Levine sings about it in his new song “What Lover’s Do.” He spends all this time chasing a relationship, playing games. But, it worth it? There’s a lot of trust that goes into relationships, right? – do we believe what the other person tells us? Do they believe what you tell them?
As Christians we’re called to be set apart in our relationships with others - whether romantic or otherwise. We’re called to be honorable and respectful, to always consider the needs of others first. In Paul’s letter to the Colossians 3: 12-13 he says, “therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Relationships are hard. There will be times it feels like a game – maybe you feel like you’re chasing after something and getting nothing in return. Does that mean we stoop to tricks to get what we want?
As Christians we should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger (James 1:19). We should learn to practice trust, but also be aware of when it may be best to sever ties, because being in a relationship full of hurt, anger, and distrust is never good.
Conclusion
Think of the relationships you have – romantic or otherwise.
Are there areas you need to work on? Do you need to practice more compassion, more kindness, more forgiveness?
What are some ways this week you can practice those things?
