“God’s Great Dance Floor”

Theme
Surrender/Freedom/Worship
Objective
To encourage students to let go in their worship to God.
Warm Up
Think of the most exciting concert or party you’ve been to. How did you feel? Joyful? Free? Did you dance?
Did you cut loose a little? Was it a time you felt comfortable just being yourself?
Or were you too worried about what the people around you were thinking and doing?
Transition
Now think about how you feel in church. Do you feel the same way or do you feel restricted?
Should church make you feel restricted? Being in the presence of God should be a freeing experience. We
should feel comfortable and able to let loose, to cut a rug, to dance in expression of our love for Him, our thankfulness for what He’s done for us.
Transition
The song begins with an expression of surrender – “Take me; this is all I can bring” – and quickly lets loose into a celebration of God’s unfailing love –“You never stop loving us, no matter how far we run.” In that surrender and freedom there is joy and freedom – “I feel alive, I come alive, I am alive on God’s great dance floor.”
Is this, maybe, what Church should be like?
Bible Study
2 Samuel 6: 12-22
· Why is David celebrating?
· How is David celebrating?
· What are the reactions of those who see him?
· What is his reaction to their scorn?
· Has there been a time you’ve felt the need to dance for God? What was it?
· How do you feel in those moments?
· Do these moments happen often? If no, how can we make more of these moments?
Psalm 149: 1-5
· What are some forms of worshipping God listed in this passage?
· Are there other forms of worship? What are they?
· Do you practice a unique form of worship? What is it?
· Is there anything about your worship that needs to change? What is it?
Wrap Up
There should be freedom in our worship to God. There should be no need for restraint. David didn’t show any restraint to the point that he was dancing in his underwear. While, maybe, we shouldn’t be stripping for God, we should have joy and freedom in our expressions to Him.
Think about how often we worship. Is it just once a week? Is it a couple times a week? Why not find time every day
to worship God? God is worthy of our worship every day, not just on Sunday mornings. This week as you go out, find a reason to celebrate God every day. Find a new way to celebrate God – dancing, singing, playing an instrument…or maybe it’s something else entirely. Whatever it is make sure it’s completely you!
