Theme
God’s love, God’s faithfulness, Worship
Objective
To encourage students, in light of God’s love, to live a life of worship and praise.
Warm Up
Play a few rounds of “Honey if you love me, you’ll smile” – Have students arrange their seats in a circle, with one student in the center as “it”. Student in the center chooses one student in the circle, says “Honey if you love me, you’ll smile” while attempting to make the other smile. The person on the outside must respond without smiling or laughing saying, "Honey, I love you but I just can't smile." The person in the middle can do various things, without touching anyone, to get another person to smile. If the person does smile then they will become the center person.
Transition
What’s the most unique way you’ve said “I love you” to someone?
How do you show love to others?
Is it easy for you to show love to others? Why/why not?
Is it easy for you to receive love from others? Why/why not?
What about God? How you do show your love for God?
Song
Chris Tomlin’s new song talks about what it’s like to be loved by God.
Transition
Are there any parts of the song that stood out to you?
Bible Study
Read John 15: 1-17
· What does it mean for Jesus to be the true vine?
· What role does the gardener (God) play in relation to the vine?
· What role does the gardener play in relation to the branches?
· As Christians, what is our relationship to the vine?
· As a Christian, what does it mean to bear fruit?
· What kind of fruit will you bear apart from the vine?
· How does Jesus show His love for us?
· What should our response be to this love?
· How can you bear fruit this week?
Wrap Up
Read Romans 5:8
Is there someone you love so much you’d do anything for them? Would you die for them?
Jesus thinks you’re worth dying for. So, in light of a love so strong, how do we respond? Do we continue arguing with our siblings? Do we continue making fun of that one kid in class? Do we continue to ignore injustice around us?
Take some time now – how will you show love to others this week?
