Theme
Rest, Spiritual Peace
Teaching Point
Only when we seek God’s grace and peace can we truly experience rest for our souls.
Opening Discussion
Begin with a moment of silence. Everyone close their eyes. Imagine the most peaceful place you can – maybe a secluded vacation spot, a secret place in the woods. Where do you go to find peace and quiet? Describe your ideal spot.
Discussion
Sometimes life sneaks up on us. Sometimes we’re jammed with responsibilities and worries. Maybe it’s a test at school, boyfriend/girlfriend trouble, or maybe there’s stress at home. Think about how you deal with that stress – how do you escape the insanity of life? Do you have a time every day when you can just decompress and just sit in quiet?
In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus says the only place to find rest is Him. He says, “Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest.” He promises rest for our souls if we just come to Him.
What does that look like for you? Maybe it means finding a few minutes at the end of your day just to sit in solitude and give all your stress to God. Maybe it means making time for a quiet walk.
Whatever your stresses, whatever your burdens, give them to Jesus. Take up His yoke – He promises rest.
Conclusion
In Psalm 46:10 we find the command to “be still, and know that I am God.” We can only find rest when we make the time to be quiet, to be still, to get away from the life and chaos around us. When we make that time, when we come to Jesus with all our junk – only then can we fully feel rested and at peace.
