Theme
Hope within difficulties, Confidence in Christ, God’s power, God’s presence
Objective
To remind students that despite the problems and struggles they will face in life, God is big enough and strong enough to see them through it.
Warm Up
Play a round or 2 of Jedi Jedi -
supplies needed – clothespins (at least 5 per player), blindfold, pool noodle.
Choose one player to be it (they will stand in the center of the playing area, keeping their feet stationary). Attach clothespins to the back of the player’s shirt. Then blindfold the player and arm them with a pool noodle. Their objective is to use the pool noodle to protect the clothespins on their back while remaining blindfolded.
The object of the game is for the other players to collect as many clothespins off the center player without getting hit by the pool noodle. If hit by the pool noodle they are out.
Game play continues until all clothespins are collected or all players are out.
As play progresses, choose one or two leaders to play shields for random students – it’s their job to take the hit, protecting the students so they can grab the clothespins.
Transition
Was the game easy or difficult?
What was the hardest part of the game?
How did you feel when someone stepped in to shield you from the hit? Did it make the game any easier?
Song
Brandon Heath’s new song “See Me Through It” is all about God’s leading in times of trouble. Let’s take a listen.
Bible Study
Read Isaiah 43: 1-7
Think back to the game we played at the beginning and the idea that some people were protected while you were left to fend for yourself. Do you ever feel that way with God when you’re facing difficult times? Does it ever feel like God is leaving you hanging on the line? Like He’s not really there?
Now think back to the Scripture passages we just talked about – the call to be strong and courageous, the promise that trials will help us build faith endurance, will lead us to a more perfect faith, that God will help us through each and every difficult moment.
Claim those promises as your own! Remember that, despite how it may feel in the moment, God is ALWAYS with you, guiding you, equipping you for every trial and trouble you will face!

Bible Study
Read Isaiah 43: 1-7
- How does this passage make you feel?
- Does it discourage you to know that trials are inevitable in life? Why/why not?
- What about this passage gives you hope?
- Look at v 1 and v 4 again, how have we been ransomed by God?
- How does it make you feel to know that God knows you by name? that you belong to Him?
- Look at verses 6 – 9 – How many times does it say “be strong and courageous”?
- How do you find strength and courage when you face difficult times?
- How do you normally react when you face a difficult time? Complain about it? Blame others for the situation? Cry?
- How can you find joy in difficult times?
- How do you build physical endurance? How do you build spiritual endurance?
- Do you think it’s possible to reach spiritual perfection in this life?
- What is your reaction to v 13 – that your temptations are no different from what others experience?
- Do you find this promise easy to believe, that God will give you the strength you need to endure temptation?
- How has God proven himself in your life when facing temptation?
- How does this verse give you hope when facing temptations and trials...now and in the future?
